Silk Printing Workshop
March 31, 2017 rci-college

MIUC Fashion and Textile Design Department arranged Silk painting yesterday. Silk is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. Silk painting is the application of paints or dyes directly onto silk fabric using an exciting array of watercolour techniques. The colours are brilliant, vibrant and translucent and merge on the fabric which remains soft and to touch. Some of the techniques include resists with gutta and/or wax, special effect salts and alcohol. The painted fabric is the ironed or steamed to fix the colours. The hand dyed silk can be used in a variety of ways such as pictures, art to wear, bags, jewellery, cushions, lampshades, scarves, ties and cards. The dyed silk can also be embellished, embroidered and quilted.
